What support can do, and what nothing can.

One person reads this mailbox: the person who builds Manifest. There is no portal, no ticket number and no queue. The assistant in the corner is a machine that can only recite this page; the address is where a person answers. The limits are printed next to the help because that is the order you will meet them in.

For Starkive Manifest on macOS and on iOS. One subscription covers both, and both are answered from the same address.

Read every business day. Most replies go out the same day and all of them inside two. If something is going to take longer than that, you will get a note saying so rather than silence.

Manifest for macOS

1.0 · macOS 14.4 or later

The full desk: every section, the on-device model, the whole compliance surface.

Manifest for iOS

1.0 · iOS 18 or later

The same register in your hand, plus a camera in the room with the hardware. A few areas need the Mac and say so on screen.

You can also write to us from inside either app — Help › Contact support on the Mac, Settings › Contact support on the iPhone. That route shows you exactly what it will attach before it sends, and gives you a reference to quote back.

What to write about

All of it goes to the same address. This list is here so you know none of it is out of scope.

S-01

Something the app got wrong

A crash, a figure that does not add up, a screen that will not load. If the app did it, we want to hear about it.

S-02

How to do something you cannot find

Including “is this possible at all”. Sometimes the answer is no, and that is worth finding out in a day rather than a fortnight.

S-03

Billing, and what your plan covers

One subscription covers the Mac and the iPhone, billed by asset count and never per seat. If it looks like you are paying twice, tell us and we will fix it.

S-04

Moving a register to new hardware

A replaced Mac, a new phone, or a device that was wiped before anyone thought to release it.

S-05

Questions before you buy

Those are support too. You should not have to subscribe to find out whether this fits how you work.

What no message can change

These are consequences of how the product is built, not policy we could be talked out of. Writing to us cannot move any of them, and knowing that now is much cheaper than discovering it later.

L-01

We cannot recover your register

On a workspace that lives on your own devices, your copy is the only copy in existence. If it is gone and there is no backup, it is gone. This is the same property that keeps it off our servers.

L-02

We cannot reset or recover your encryption

The key is wrapped for your devices and never reaches us. Lose every device and the recovery phrase, and the protected fields cannot be opened again — by you, and not by us either.

L-03

We cannot read your protected data

So please do not send us your register to look at. We could not open it, and it would then be sitting in an inbox for no benefit to anyone.

L-04

We cannot tell you whether you pass

Manifest produces the evidence — scoping decisions, sanitisation records, the audit trail. Whether your controls satisfy your auditor is between you and them.

Nobody from Starkive will ever ask for your recovery phrase.

There is no situation in which we would need it, and we could not use it if you sent it. Anyone who asks you for it is not us.

Where your register lives, which parts of it we can read, and which are sealed with a key we never receive is set out in full on the security page.

Write it once and it can be answered once

Five lines. Manifest cannot produce a diagnostics file or a log bundle, so there is nothing to attach — everything below is something you can read off the screen in front of you.

Which app, and its versionManifest › About on the Mac. Settings › About on the iPhone.
Your macOS or iOS versionApple menu › About This Mac, or Settings › General › About.
What you were doingThe screen you were on and what you pressed. Most faults are one screen wide.
What you expectedThese turn out to be different sentences more often than you would think.
What happened insteadError text typed out beats a description of it. A screenshot is fine.

The last two matter more than they look. The gap between what you expected and what happened is usually where the fault actually is, and if the register itself has stopped being readable, say so first — that decides whether this is a display problem or a data problem, and only you can see which one you have.

Questions people have actually asked

Dated, and added to as real mail arrives. It is short because the apps are new, not because there is nothing to say — and inventing a top ten would be the fastest way to look smaller than we are.

Does one subscription cover the Mac and the iPhone?

Yes. It is one plan, billed by the number of assets you hold, and both apps open the same workspace. There is no per-device and no per-seat charge. The plans are here.

If I stop paying, do I lose the register?

No, and the answer differs by where your register lives, which is worth being exact about. On a local workspace nothing of yours was ever on our servers — the app keeps working read-only, your data is on your own devices, and there is nothing for us to retain or delete. On a cloud workspace the register goes read-only, export stays available throughout, and we retain it for twelve months before anything is deleted, with notice first. Customers hold records they are legally required to keep, and a product that purged them at thirty days would be unusable for the job it exists to do.

Do I have to put my data in your cloud?

No. A local workspace keeps the register on your own devices and never signs in to anything. It is a supported way to run the product, not a trial mode — and it is the reason L-01 above is written as bluntly as it is.

Cancelling, and refunds

Both go through Apple rather than through us, because that is who you bought from. We cannot cancel a subscription or issue a refund on your behalf, so here is where it actually happens.

Cancel a subscription

On the Mac: App Store › your name › Account Settings › Manage, next to Subscriptions.
On the iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions.

Or open apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions on any device. Cancelling stops the renewal; you keep what you paid for until the end of the period you already paid.

Ask for a refund

Apple handles refunds for everything bought through the App Store, and the decision is theirs. Start at reportaproblem.apple.com.

If something we did caused the charge — a plan that did not apply, or a workspace you were billed twice for — write to us first. We cannot move the money, but we can tell Apple what happened, and we would rather fix the cause.

Your register does not disappear when a subscription ends. What happens next depends on where it lives, and that is set out in the questions below.

Reporting a security problem

Same address, with SECURITY at the start of the subject so it is not read in order behind everything else. Tell us what you found and how to reproduce it. We will confirm receipt, tell you what we intend to do, and credit you if you want to be credited.
