Verify an asset

The shortest task in the app, and the one an audit is actually about. Done properly it is one tap per machine and you never leave the camera.

Before you start

  • A route. Verification is a walk, not a search; work a stockroom or a floor rather than a list of tags.
  • Your policy window, so you know what counts as due. It is set on the Mac, and every screen in the app uses that number rather than a default of its own.

  1. Filter to what is due before you leave the desk

    On screenEverything

    Open Assets and switch off Everything. The filter beside it names your own number rather than a category — 181 need attention in the register below, whatever yours says — and it means one of three things only: past your verification cadence, flagged for audit, or in repair. Walking an estate with the full register open means checking machines that did not need checking.

  2. Go from the machine to the record, never the other way

    On screenScan

    Open Scan and read the tag on the hardware. The direction matters: going from the machine to the record catches a machine that is not in the register at all, and going the other way never does. If the estate is tagged with NFC, Read an NFC tag is on the same screen and needs no lens.

  3. Verify from the card, without opening anything

    On screenVERIFY

    A hit draws a card over the live camera, naming the machine and why it is on your list — past your verification cadence, flagged for audit, in repair. VERIFY is the big button on that card, sized to be pressed one-handed at arm's length. Press it and it answers Verified. The camera never went down.

  4. NEXT, and keep walking

    On screenOPEN THE RECORD · NEXT

    NEXT clears the card and you are back on the viewfinder for the following machine. OPEN THE RECORD is there when you need the full sheet, but the point of this screen is that verifying forty machines is forty taps rather than forty sheets.

  5. Flag it instead if something is wrong

    On screenFlag

    Wrong holder, wrong room, damage, or a machine that is not where it should be. Flag records that you looked and it was not right, which is a different and more useful fact than silence. Do not verify a machine you could not find.

The camera screens have no picture here

Scan needs a camera, and the simulator these captures come from has none: it answers This device cannot scan, add it by hand instead, which would tell you nothing. Every control named above is read out of the shipping source rather than guessed, and the screens go in as soon as they are photographed on a real handset.

NextSweep a rackOne camera that stays open while you pan across a shelf. It records what was seen, and it is careful not to call that verified.
